Green Initiatives at Riverside Medical Center

By going green Riverside is helping take care of the planet and reduce our carbon footprint. Whatever steps we take will help make a difference today - and for future generations.
Current Initiatives
Recycling
Riverside sends out 8 tons of material for recycling each month: cardboard, aluminum, plastic, toner cartridges etc. (avoiding landfill)
Shredding
Riverside shreds and recycles 150,000 pounds of (confidential) paper each year. (avoiding landfill)
Reusable Sharps Containers
The Daniels SharpSmart Reusable Sharps Containment Device reduces our waste stream of needles, syringes, and plastic by 6.5 tons annually. The device also provides a safer environment for our staff and patients.
Document Management
Riverside has invested in equipment and electronic medical record systems that allow physicians and staff to print less and scan more.
Construction
Our new East Tower addition is being built with many green materials including Low VOC Paint, Recycled Flooring Content, Renewable Resource Flooring, Urea & Formaldehyde Free Adhesives, super efficient Low E Glass, heat resistant White TPO Roofing, Occupancy Sensors for reduced energy consumption, and Energy Star Rated appliances. Also, a 6200 square foot Vegetative Living Green Roof System is being designed.
