RIVERSIDE CELEBRATES 40 YEARS OF BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES

A Journey of Choice, Hope and Recovery

KANKAKEE, IL (September 14, 2012) – Research shows that mental disorders affect tens of millions of people each year and only a fraction of those affected receive treatment. Riverside Medical Center has a team of experts that have been helping people in our region with their behavioral health concerns for many years.

RMC’s Behavioral Health Services department is celebrating 40 years. The theme of their celebration is, “A Journey of Choice, Hope and Recovery.”

“Riverside Behavioral Services has always provided an extensive continuum of programs and services presenting the highest quality, most comprehensive and cost effective Behavioral Health care services available in order to meet the patient wherever they are.  Our goal is to always provide extraordinary care for the mind, body and spirit” said Chris Anthony, Director of Behavioral Services. “I’m proud to have been a part of this exceptional care for the last 37 years.”

Dr. Dusan Gojkovich and Riverside Medical Center opened a 20-bed Mental Health Unit on the third floor of RMC in September 1972, creating the hospital’s commitment to mental health care. Just a few years later, they broke ground for a new, state of the art 50-bed Mental Health Unit that opened in 1979.

Much like its other services, Riverside’s mental health care has always been driven by the needs of the community. In the late ‘80’s, that need sparked the Oakside Clinic, a place for traditional outpatient therapy as well as the Resolve Center for substance abuse issues. The new millennium led to many changes including dual diagnosis partial hospitalization program, a bi-lingual program at Resolve, a girls specialty program and a boys specialty program opening. Earlier this year an adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program began at the Dr. Dusan Gojkovich Center for Behavioral Wellness.

“Behavioral health care has evolved greatly over the years and for Riverside to keep up with those changes and advancements, speaks highly for how the hospital is committed to the wellbeing of its community members, and we will continue to respond to those needs moving forward,” said Anthony.
