KANKAKEE, IL (February 19, 2013) – Riverside Medical Center is proud to announce its partnership with The Pilot Township Fire Protection District to provide emergency ambulance services for the Fire Protection District.

Riverside will now supply one Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance 24-hours per day with staff.

“We have been providing ambulance service for four years to the district for limited daily time frames,” said Kevin Hack, Riverside’s Director of Ambulance/EMS Services. “We look forward to providing the 24-hour coverage to the community and district residents.

Riverside is responsible for the employee’s wages, benefits and human resources matters. In addition, Riverside is responsible for maintaining and insuring the Department owned ambulances.

Herscher’s responsibilities include providing living quarters for all on-duty staff. Also the Herscher Fire Department’s eligible members have received employment opportunities with Riverside Ambulance.

Under the new agreement, for every call the Herscher ambulances receive, a secondary ambulance is dispatched to Herscher from Riverside Ambulance’s Bradley station.  This process provides additional coverage for the district when the primary ambulance is on a call.

“This [agreement] provides 24 hours a day, every day of the year coverage of personnel in the station.” said Herscher Fire Chief Al Ramsey.  Ramsey wished to thank all the past Herscher volunteer ambulance personnel for their loyalty and dedication to the fire department.

Riverside Ambulance began service in 1987. Today, they have 13 ALS ambulances serving the communities of Bradley, Bourbonnais, Kankakee, Momence, Pembroke Township, St. Anne, Beaverville, Papineau, Martinton, Ashkum, Danforth, Donovan, Chebanse and Clifton.  Riverside provides fire and ambulance personnel for the Limestone Township Fire Protection District. The ambulance department has 48 full-time and 25 temporary relief personnel. Riverside Ambulance responded to 11,848 calls to duty in 2012 and expectations for 2013 exceed 12,000.
