Clinical Pastoral Education
Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) for Level I and Level II is being offered at Riverside Medical Center in an extended unit of CPE. The CPE program is accredited as a satellite of Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.
Riverside Medical Center has a strong commitment to education for those who offer spiritual care to our patients, family members and care team members. Riverside offers Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) to individuals actively engaged in institutional, parish, or other ministry settings as formational training or continuing education. Qualified laypersons interested in exploring chaplaincy may also be accepted.
CPE is an action/reflection process of theological education grounded in a person-centered approach to pastoral ministry. As a member of an interdisiplinary health care team, the student's education experience involves providing pastoral care to patients, families and staff. Each student participates in overnight in-house hospital rotation.
Students under the direction of a supervisor certified by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE), use case studies, verbatims, and role-play to focus on ministry issues. Didactic seminars provide information about pastoral care, the hospital setting and needs of patients and their families. Principles of psychology, religion, spirituality and theology are combined with practice to develop skills and competency in pastoral ministry.
Riverside CPE program offers an extended unit of Level I and Level II CPE. For more information or to request an application package, contact Reverend Marsha Collins at (815) 933-1671 extension 4960 or Marsha-Collins@RiversideHealthCare.net.
