MRI at Riverside Medical Center
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses magnetic fields and radio waves (rather than x-rays) to provide clear and detailed pictures of internal organs and tissues. Like the CT scan, the MRI can be performed with or without contrast or dye and is painless.
Riverside’s Siemens Espree 1.5T MRI is an open-bore system that gives patients greater comfort without compromising the quality of the MRI exam. In fact, in enables a higher level of image quality not possible before in an open MRI and is the first of its kind available in the United States. It is located in the Riverside Medical Plaza on the Bourbonnais Campus.
Patients benefit from:
- Reduced feelings of claustrophobia and the increased ability to complete the examination because most exams can be performed with the patient’s head resting outside of the equipment
- Computer-aided detection (CAD) technology that ensures all breast scans get a “second look”
- The MRI’s ability to accommodate large and obese patients
You can schedule your MRI by calling (815) 935-7531. A hospital representative will instruct you on how to prepare for this test.
