Riverside Diabetes Self-Management Education Program is committed to the education of diabetes prevention and self-management. It is our mission to provide this service with the quality and caring that promotes empowerment and improved health.

Diabetes Wellness Center Staff

Kelly Cuffe, MS, RD, LDN, CDE
Kelly is the manager and program coordinator of the Riverside Diabetes Wellness Center. She has her Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and received her Master of Science in Diabetes Education and Management from Columbia University in New York.

Philosophy of Care:
Kelly’s philosophy of care lies heavily on the patient and where they are at that moment with the management of their diabetes.  She tries to help them transition to a place of acceptance and empowerment towards their diabetes.


Amy Hertz, MS, RD, LDN, CDE
Amy is a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator with a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from St. Mary of the Woods College and a Master of Science in Dietetics from Eastern Illinois University.

Philosophy of Care:
Amy strives to be a change agent in the lives of people with diabetes.


Julie Allen, MS, RD, LDN, CDE
Julie received her Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition and Master of Science in Dietetics from Eastern Illinois University.

Philosophy of Care:
As a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator she believes empowerment is the best medicine that can be given to her patients. Once they are educated and shown they have the “power to be powerful,” good health will follow.


Nancy Peeler, BSN, RN, CDE
Nancy received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Olivet Nazarene University. She is a registered nurse and certified diabetes educator.

Philosophy of Care:
Nancy believes it is her endeavor to empower patient self-management through education of both patients and caregivers, meeting the patient at one’s point of perceived need.


Miki Lee, RN
Miki has her Associates in Nursing from Chicago City Colleges and works as a registered nurse and diabetes educator.

Philosophy of Care:
Miki’s philosophy of care is to always be responsible to the community to provide safe, holistic, patient-centered care and to help them to live their best life.  As a diabetes educator and advocate, she strives to empower patients by encouraging them to become active partners in their care and engage in mutual goal-setting between ourselves and the patient.


Julie Memenga, Department Secretary
Julie received her Associates in Applied Sciences from Kankakee Community College.

Philosophy of Care:
Her philosophy of care is about making patients feel comfortable and putting them at ease as they prepare to embark on their journey with diabetes.  Julie believes that welcoming each patient with a warm friendly smile, combined with excellent customer service can make a difference in every patient’s life.
