This is a catheter based interventional procedure which uses balloons to open blocked vessels. The groin or wrist arteries are used to insert a catheter into the artery with the blockage. The catheter has a very small balloon attached to the catheter and it is advanced to the location of the blockage. The balloon is inflated to push the blockage off to the sides of the artery and open the vessel to increase the blood flow.
This is a catheter based interventional procedure using a stent (a small, metal mesh tube) to open blockages. This procedure is similar to angioplasty with the exception of a metal scaffold surrounding the balloon on the catheter. When the balloon is inflated, the metal scaffold adheres to the walls of the vessel and stays open inside the artery. The balloon is deflated and removed from the artery, but the stent remains inside the artery to hold the blockage open and improve blood flow.
This is a catheter based interventional procedure in which a stent is placed in the carotid artery. The carotid artery is the artery that supplies blood to the brain. Carotid stenting is a procedure used to prevent strokes from occurring in patients with blocked carotid arteries. In the procedure, a catheter with a balloon is advanced to the blockage and inflated to compress the blockage to the artery walls and improve blood flow. After the balloon (angioplasty) procedure, a catheter with a stent (a small, metal mesh tube) on the tip is advanced to the area of the blockage and the stent is placed inside the artery to provide support and keep the artery open. Carotid stenting is a non-surgical procedure and is a less invasive approach than carotid endarterectomy which is the surgical procedure for treating carotid artery blockages. Not everyone is a candidate for this procedure.
Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Stent Grafts
This is a simpler and safer alternative for open abdominal surgery in treating abdominal aortic aneurysms. This is an invasive procedure in which a stent graft is advanced through an incision in the groin to the aneurysm and then opened. Once the stent graft is opened it creates new walls in the vessel that blood can flow through and redirects the blood flow so it can stop putting pressure on the weak aortic wall. The benefits of this procedure over surgery are it eliminates the large abdominal incision and does not require the aorta to be clamped during the procedure. Not everyone is a candidate for this procedure.
This is a catheter based interventional procedure used to remove blockages. The laser procedure is the use of light to breakdown calcification and plaque into small particles which can easily be absorbed into the bloodstream. It is done by advancing a fiber optic catheter that transmits ultraviolet light energy to the lesion. The ultraviolet light energy gently breaks down the blockage into small particles that are absorbed by the bloodstream. The laser is used for lesions above and below the knee.
This is a catheter based interventional procedure used to remove blockages. A catheter is advanced to the blockage. The device removes tough plaque which improves blood flow through the artery. Atherectomy is used as an alternative for surgery or amputation and is a minimally invasive procedure.
This is a catheter based interventional procedure used to break up blood clots and remove them from the bloodstream. The tip of the catheter is designed to create a high pressure vacuum system which breaks up the clot and pulls it out of the body through the catheter.

Removal of fat causing blockage of blood flow to brain—metal mesh (stent) insertion to open blockage may be used, in some cases.
