After a hectic holiday season, it’s essential to take time to slow down and focus on yourself.
From family obligations to work responsibilities, chances are you have a lot on your plate. But one thing you can't afford to skimp on is self-care. This means taking time for yourself to engage in habits that help you live and feel your best.
One of the best ways to do this is by being active. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity each week. Walking is often ideal. But the best activities are those you enjoy and can sustain.
If you’re looking to get active but don’t know where to start, the Riverside Health Fitness Center is just what you’re looking for.
Emily Kane, director of RHFC, said that going to the fitness center is "a really great way for anybody who's taking care of the health of others to take care of your own personal and professional well-being.”
She said being active in a setting like the fitness center offers space and time to care for one’s own well-being, “both physically and mentally.”
RHFC is a medically integrated health and fitness facility and is certified by the Medical Fitness Association. Amenities include a walking track, lap pool, therapy pool, whirlpool, steam rooms, sauna and a variety of land and aqua classes. For a full list of amenities, click here.
New this year is a session of Pilates reformer classes, in addition to the regular Pilates classes. RHFC will also be offering pop-up classes like kickboxing and themed cycling classes.
Additionally, RHFC offers child care, so parents can bring their littles ones along.
While exercise is great for physical health and helps stimulate the mind and improve mood, there’s another aspect of the fitness center that can be beneficial for one’s mental health.
“We have the opportunity for you to join our community, get to know some people and have that social aspect,” Kane said.
