At Riverside Healthcare, healing extends beyond immediate medical care. In partnership with the Trauma Survivors Network (TSN), Riverside is providing vital support and resources to patients and families navigating the often overwhelming aftermath of traumatic injury.

This collaboration reflects Riverside’s commitment to whole-person care—addressing not only physical recovery, but also the emotional, psychological, and practical challenges survivors face on their journey toward healing and resilience.

Here, Dana Arseneau, Trauma Program Coordinator with Riverside Medical Center, shares more about the partnership and what it means for the community. Dana Arseneau

What Does the TSN Do, Exactly?

The Trauma Survivors Network, part of the American Trauma Society, helps trauma survivors connect and support one another. While Riverside excels at treating patients' physical injuries, the program addresses the often-overlooked emotional challenges survivors face after leaving the hospital and completing different types of rehab.

“If you had an accident and you lost your hand, your life is completely changed. You were just working, and now you're recovering on the couch. Life is still going on without you,” states Arseneau. “How do you manage that? And how do you change your goals now? How does your family manage that? What you probably need most is somebody who has been there so you can connect with them. Making that connection helps people to feel more human and like they can get through this difficult time.”

TSN’s Dedication to Helping Patients and Caregivers

TSN offers two monthly support groups open to all survivors, not just Riverside patients. As a nationwide program, it connects individuals with a broad network of others who have experienced similar injuries, providing immediate support and a community tailored to each survivor's unique situation.

“They also do a support group once a month for caregivers, which is great, because there's not a lot of opportunities for them. They're going through a lot as well,” notes Arseneau.

Information about TSN is available on both the Riverside and Trauma Survivors Network websites. By searching "Riverside Trauma Prevention," visitors can easily find the page and use the “Join The Center” button to sign up for emails, classes, and available resources through TSN.

“I'm just hoping that if there is anybody out in the community who can take advantage of this offering, please go for it,” urges Arseneau. “We're also planning on building upon this partnership. For example, the American Trauma Society does a ‘race to rebuild’ every year, which is essentially a bunch of survivors and supporters getting together and doing a race, whether it's a walk or a 5K run. We're building more support for them and more resources. And, we're hoping to have our own race next year, so stay tuned for that.”
