Riverside Healthcare is proud to announce the re-certification of its Kankakee Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation program by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). This certification is recognition of Riverside’s commitment to improving the quality of life of patients by enhancing standards of care.

“This certification is a testament not only to our commitment to provide high quality care in Kankakee and the surrounding areas, but also to the dedication of our staff,” said Phil Kambic, Riverside president and CEO. “We know specialized rehabilitation programs are so important in the healing journey – especially when it comes to your heart and lungs. With the expansion of our Cardiopulmonary Rehab program to our Bourbonnais and Watseka Campuses we will be able to provide more opportunities to patients to get the rehab they need closer to home.”

Cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation programs are designed to help people with cardiovascular problems (e.g., heart attacks, coronary artery bypass graft surgery, peripheral artery disease) and pulmonary problems (e.g., chronic obstructive pulmonary disease [COPD], restrictive lung symptoms) recover faster and live healthier. Both programs lay the groundwork with exercise. More importantly, the programs provide education, counseling and support for patients and their families when dealing with significant changes in health and lifestyles.

To earn accreditation, the Riverside Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation program in Kankakee participated in an application process that requires extensive documentation of the program’s practices. AACVPR Program Certification is the only peer-review accreditation process designed to review individual programs for adherence to standards and guidelines developed and published by AACVPR and other related professional societies. Each program’s application is reviewed by the AACVPR Program Certification Committee, and certification is awarded by the AACVPR Board of Directors.

Riverside remains unwavering in its dedication to provide remarkable, patient-centered care close to home by offering Cardiopulmonary Rehab in Kankakee and Bourbonnais, as well as the addition of a program starting in Watseka late 2023.
