KANKAKEE, IL (July 9, 2020) – Riverside has completed a multi-phase renovation of it's main hospital campus in Kankakee, streamlining access and improving safety and privacy for patients undergoing both in- and out-patient procedures.

“The modernization of our first floor layout will allow for better quality experiences for our patients and their families,” said Phil Kambic, President and CEO of Riverside Healthcare. "We're invested in growing with the changing needs in healthcare. This project is another testament to our commitment to bring unmatched quality to our region."

The 30,000 square-foot project, which began last year, will enable Riverside to serve up to 15,000 patients a year in inpatient and outpatient settings in the following areas:

• General surgery
• Specialty surgery
• Special procedures lab
• Cardiac catheterization lab
• Interventional radiology

With easier access for patient flow, the new space offers improved safety and privacy. Currently, Riverside is following enhanced safety protocols including testing all patients for COVID-19 before their procedures and surgeries. Also, Riverside is providing patient care with only staff who test negative for COVID-19, allowing only one visitor per patient in our ER, surgery, inpatient and physician offices, screening visitors, staff and patients with rapid temperature checks and following mask-on and social distancing protocols.

After the procedure and recovery, patients will exit through a private hallway, further enhancing safety and privacy measures. Additionally, the newly renovated and private pre- and post-surgical bed spaces offer a calming, comforting setting. Not only will Riverside patients receive the best care from a Magnet® designated team, they'll also experience complementary treatment modalities such as aromatherapy and music therapy.

"We understand the emotions that can come along with undergoing procedures," added Kyle Benoit, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Riverside Healthcare. "Our team has worked incredibly hard to ensure each patient experience is personalized, during every moment of their time here at Riverside."

An enhanced experience for patient families has been at the heart of this project, too. Through specialized messaging systems and more accommodations, support persons can also feel the ease and convenience this project is providing.

Through operational efficiency and standardization of key processes, patients and their loved ones can be assured the care they receive at Riverside is among the best in the nation.

The investment in this project is what makes the highest quality of care possible for Riverside patients and their families.
