When it comes to accessible, high-quality healthcare, outpatient services are playing an increasingly vital role in meeting patients' everyday needs. At Riverside Medical Group, these services are more than just convenient—they're a cornerstone of comprehensive care.
From preventive screenings and chronic disease management to same-day sick visits and specialized treatments, Riverside’s outpatient offerings are designed to keep patients healthy, informed, and supported—without the need for a hospital stay. Here, Wendy Homman, Riverside Medical Group Operations Director, discusses the true value of outpatient care at Riverside and how it’s transforming the healthcare experience for individuals and families alike.
What Types of Outpatient Services Are Available?
While Riverside Medical Center is a key part of the organization, outpatient services make up a significant portion of the care Riverside provides. These services—which include primary care, specialty clinics, diagnostic imaging, lab work, physical therapy, behavioral health, and same-day care—are vital to supporting the community and are offered at convenient locations across the region.
“Our mission is to help patients stay on top of their health without needing to go to the hospital for routine or preventative care,” states Homman. “It's really where we build lasting relationships and support patients in managing their health every day, outside of the hospital setting.”
Region-Specific Outpatient Services
Riverside Medical Group operates over a dozen primary care locations across four counties, ranging from rural health clinics to larger multi-specialty campuses. Each site is designed to provide high-quality, accessible care close to home—offering trusted providers for new residents, preventive care, and chronic condition management within local communities.
• The Watseka campus serves rural patients with full-spectrum primary care, walk-in immediate care seven days a week, onsite lab and imaging, and a range of specialties including oncology, neurology, cardiology, wound care, sleep evaluations, and physical therapy.
• The Coal City campus recently expanded, nearly doubling in size to include more exam rooms, new providers, and added services like oncology, infusion, and physical therapy. It also offers daily immediate care and extended weekday hours.
• The Frankfort campus provides primary care, specialty clinics such as cardiology, oncology, and orthopedics, and advanced diagnostics—all in one convenient location—making it a valuable healthcare hub for the community.
“Having multiple specialties at a single location is a major advantage for patients. It reduces the need to travel to multiple locations. It simplifies coordination between providers. And, it often shortens the time between referral and appointments,” notes Homman. “It's also more convenient for patients managing complex or chronic conditions who may need to see more than one provider in the same day. It's all about making healthcare easier to navigate and more accessible.
A Care Model That Works—For All
Riverside Medical Group ensures consistency through strong leadership, clear expectations, and continuous support. They use standardized workflows, staff training, and regular communication across all sites, while monitoring quality and patient experience metrics to drive improvement. Feedback from both staff and patients also plays a key role in identifying concerns and enhancing care.
“We're always looking for ways to evolve with the needs of the communities we serve. That may include recruiting new providers, expanding service lines, or even investing in infrastructure that improves access and experience. We're also focused on enhancing our use of technology, both in the clinic and through digital platforms to offer more flexible options like telehealth and remote monitoring,” shares Homman. “Ultimately, our goal is to meet people where they are and to continue delivering the highest level of care close to their home.”
