Dr Crawford and Sonex recovery scar

Riverside Orthopedic Specialists announces that Orthopedic Hand Surgeon Taruna Madhav Crawford, MD, CIME, now offers carpal tunnel release with UltraGuideCTR by Sonex Health.
The low-profile UltraGuideCTR utilizes technology developed by physicians at the Mayo Clinic. The design allows carpal tunnel release (CTR) through a single incision while protecting sensitive anatomy.
“For many, the Sonex procedure offers an opportunity to get the relief they are seeking,” said Dr. Crawford. “Often my patients are apprehensive because of the recovery time associated with traditional carpal tunnel surgery; this offers a different approach.”
CTR with UltraGuideCTR is performed under real-time ultrasound guidance. This enables the physician to perform CTR through a small incision which typically is closed with an adhesive strip or bandage instead of sutures. The procedure can be completed in an outpatient setting utilizing local anesthesia. It can reduce pain and allow for faster recovery. Most patients return to regular activity in 3 to 6 days.
“Carpal tunnel syndrome is painful and bothersome for many people,” said Dr. Crawford. “We are committed to providing the best possible care for our patients. This technique is less invasive and promotes a rapid recovery so patients can get back to their jobs and lives faster.”
Carpal tunnel syndrome affects more than 12 million Americans and results in 650,000 surgeries every year. Traditional CTR procedures can remedy the condition but may result in significant and sometimes painful scars, ongoing palmar pain, and a long road to recovery.
Advantages of CTR with UltraGuideCTR and real-time ultrasound guidance
  1. Return to regular activity in days, not months
  2. Performed in a procedure room or office setting
  3. Can be performed using local anesthesia
  4. Small wrist incision typically closed without sutures
  5. Reduce or eliminate the need for opioids
  6. Postoperative therapy generally is not required - saving time and money
  7. Immediate motion in the hand for rapid recovery
