February is Heart Month and the Riverside Heart and Vascular Institute has a variety of activities planned to raise awareness of what you can do to fight heart disease, the leading cause of death in the U.S. for both men and women.

Wednesday of the month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Riverside Medical Center South Lobby – 350 N. Wall Street, Kankakee. Visit the Riverside Heart Team to get your blood pressure taken, learn more about the Riverside Heart & Vascular Institute, and enjoy a heart-healthy snack!
A special in-person presentation, “What You Don’t Know About Vascular Disease Could be Killing You,” will be held Thursday, February 2, 6 to 7 p.m. at the Riverside Health Fitness Center. Attendees can learn about the importance of vascular health from Riverside vascular surgeon Syed Hussain and PA-C Sherri Morrison. Registration is required for this free event. National Wear Red Day is Friday, February 3. Wear red to help Riverside paint the region the color of heart health awareness. This national movement spreads awareness of cardiovascular disease so we can all live longer, healthier lives. Join our entire staff and wear red on Friday, February 3rd.
Another special in-person presentation, “Your Heart: How it works. What to do When it Doesn’t,” will be held Thursday, February 9, 6 to 7 p.m. at the Riverside Health Fitness Center, 100 Fitness Dr. in Bourbonnais. Learn about valvular heart disease and the structural heart from Riverside cardiologists Vikas Patel, MD and Nathan Frogge, MD. Registration is required for this free event. The annual Art4Heart Art Show and Reception will be held on Thursday February 23, 5 to 7 p.m. at The Majestic, 150 N. Schuyler Ave. in Kankakee. Explore the journey to a healthy heart through the artist’s eye. This unique event, now in its 12th year, features artwork submissions from nearly 15 area high schools. There will be refreshments, music and art...for your heart.
