Comprehensive Care Every Month of Pregnancy & Beyond
Regular specialized prenatal care is important to ensure you and your growing baby are healthy. Prenatal screenings and checkups can rule out problems or catch them before they become harmful to you and/or your baby. At Riverside Healthcare, our physicians and nurses have the expertise to help you get the proper nutrition, deal with morning sickness and develop a birth plan.

Doula Support at Riverside
In accordance with Illinois Public Act 104-009, Riverside Medical Center recognizes the important role doulas can play in supporting patients before, during, and after childbirth. You have the right to have a doula by your side — and we're here to help make that happen.
What is a Doula?
A doula is a trained, non-medical support professional who provides physical, emotional, and informational support to you and your family during pregnancy, labor, delivery, and the time after birth. The care a doula provides is personalized to your needs, preferences, and experiences.
During pregnancy, a doula can help you prepare for childbirth and explore your preferences for the birthing process. During labor, doula support may include encouragement, help with breathing and positioning, comfort measures like massage, and assistance communicating with your care team. After birth, doulas can support your recovery, infant feedings, and adjustment to life with a newborn.
Doula Support for Illinois Medicaid Patients
If you're covered by Illinois Medicaid, you may be eligible to have a Medicaid-certified and enrolled doula accompany you at Riverside before, during, and after labor and childbirth — at no additional cost. Medicaid covers three main areas of doula care: prenatal (during pregnancy), labor and delivery, and postpartum (after delivery).
To receive Medicaid-covered doula care, your doula must be credentialed and in-network with Illinois Medicaid or your Managed Care Organization. Call the member services number on the back of your Medicaid card to verify your coverage and request a list of approved, in-network doulas in your area.
What to Know About Doulas at Riverside
- An Illinois Medicaid-certified and enrolled doula is not counted as a support person or against your guest quota before, during, or after childbirth.
- We maintain relationships with community-based organizations that provide doula services.
- We welcome doulas who come through your own referrals — including those found through insurance, your medical provider, word of mouth, or advertising.
- Upon request, Illinois Medicaid-enrolled doulas may be asked to provide written confirmation of their Medicaid certification and enrollment.
- We welcome doulas in the Family Birthing Center and as patient support for our class offerings.
- We offer tours of our facility — your doula is welcome to join you before your due date.
