Advanced CT system helps cancer care team target tumors

Patients at Riverside Cancer Institute in need of radiation therapy now have access to the most advanced treatment technology. The new Discovery RT radiotherapy system reduces treatment times while enabling each patient's care team to personalize oncology treatment plans with improved accuracy and radiation dosing safety.

"Innovative technologies like the Discovery RT system help us to more accurately target cancer cells while minimizing exposure to healthy tissue to optimize each patient's outcome."

Riverside's recently-installed Discovery RT system, a product of GE Healthcare, is user-friendly for the patient, physician and care team.

With a large gantry opening, the new system is designed to make the scanning procedure not only more accurate, but also more comfortable for patients. The opening accommodates patients in need of unique positioning while the CT system's advanced image reconstruction technology enables the cancer care team to quickly acquire high-clarity images with minimized breath hold times required from the patient undergoing treatment.

Additionally, the system offers 4D video organ motion tracking, which is able to track organ movement over time, so radiation therapy treatments can be delivered more accurately.
